Rurouni Kenshin Returns With New Anime Series

Rurouni Kenshin, a samurai character from Japan, will return with a new anime series that adapts the main manga (comic).

This was announced by the studio working on the series at the Aniplex Online Fest 2022 event, Saturday (9/24/2022). On the same occasion, the trailer, main staff, and main cast for the project which will premiere in 2023 on Noitamina Fuji TV were revealed.

As reported by Antara, Sunday (9/25/2022), Hideyo Yamamoto (“Strike the Blood”, “Magical Girl Spec-Ops Asuka”, “Cells at Work!”) is directing the anime with Liden Films 2022. He is assisted by Terumi Nishii, character designer, and Hideyuki Kurata, who is in charge of series composition. In addition, there is Yuu Takami who acts as a music composer.

Voice actor (voice) Souma Saito, will star in the series as Kenshin Himura, and Rie Takahashi plays Kaoru Kamiya.

The manga Rurouni Kenshin: Hokkaido Arc (“Rurouni Kenshin, Meiji Kenkaku Romantan: Hokkaido-hen”) is airing on Shueisha’s Jump SQ, created by Watsuki and his wife, Kaoru Kurosaki, who are novelists and story collaborators.

The manga went on hiatus in December 2017 after Watsuki was indicted for possession of child pornography. The series then resumed publication in June 2018. Shueisha then published the manga’s seventh compiled volume on May 2.

Viz Media had been simultaneously publishing the manga in English, but stopped following the manga’s hiatus in 2017.

Watsuki first launched the 28-volume Rurouni Kenshin manga in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine in 1994. The manga has more than 72 million copies in circulation worldwide.

The manga series centers around Kenshin Himura, who was once a deadly assassin during the Meiji Restoration, and ends up trying to find a new life outside of violence.

The manga has been adapted into an anime series with 95 episodes, an anime film, three original anime projects, five live-action films, and a musical by the female musical theater group Takarazuka Revue.

The live-action film “Rurouni Kenshin Saishuushou (The Final)” opens in Japan in April 2021, and the live-action film “Rurouni Kenshin Saishuushou (The Beginning)” opens in Japan in June 2021.

New Rurouni Kenshin TV Anime Reveals Cast, Staff, 2023 Premiere on Noitamina

The Aniplex Online Fest 2022 event on Saturday revealed a trailer, the main staff, and the main cast for the new television anime project based on Nobuhiro Watsuki’s Rurouni Kenshin manga. The anime will premiere in 2023 on Fuji TV’s Noitamina programming block.

Hideyo Yamamoto (Strike the Blood, Magical Girl Spec-Ops Asuka, Cells at Work! Code Black) is directing the anime at LIDEN FILMS. Terumi Nishii is designing the characters, and Hideyuki Kurata is in charge of series composition. Yū Takami is composing the music.

Sōma Saitō stars in the series as Kenshin Himura, and Rie Takahashi costars as Kaoru Kamiya.
