This article contains a few spoilers for Detective Conan: The Bride of Halloween that might annoy those of you who haven’t watched it yet. Be wise in reading, yes!
A mysterious bomb haunts Shibuya during Halloween celebrations
Detective Conan: The Bride of Halloween opens with a fake wedding reception between inspector Takagi and Sato held in a luxurious building in the Shibuya area. On the other hand, Rei Furuya who works as an agent for the national security bureau is also investigating the bomber who caused his old friend, Jinpei Matsuda, to die.
Despite successfully catching up to the culprit, Furuya encounters a mysterious bomber and is trapped with a necklace filled with explosive chemicals. This necklace contains two liquids that can explode violently if the two liquids are combined. The bomber goes by the name Plamya and he has sent various threats, including retired police officer Muranaka, who will soon marry his future wife, Christine.

Due to an emergency situation, Furuya teams up with Conan to investigate Plamya’s true identity, uncover the mystery of Jinpei Matsuda’s death 3 years ago, and the reason Plamya is after Muranaka and Cristine’s marriage.
The 25th film of the Detective Conan franchise has a fairly solid plot and doesn’t rambling from start to finish. Maybe a little comedy insert is included to freshen the atmosphere. However, in several scenes, the puzzles presented in this film make the audience have to be really observant to be able to guess who the real bomber is. As expected, the climax of the story and the plot twists in this film are also well made and quite unexpected at the end of the film.
Anger can only be appeased with love
With the rise of the death of Jinpei Matsuda which has passed 3 years ago, several police colleagues are also emotional in the investigation, one of which is Miwako Sato. Takagi’s fiancé persisted in reinvestigating the case even though the National Security Bureau ordered that the case be handed over to them. When the police come up with the idea of undercover involving Takagi, Sato immediately disagrees because he feels he will lose the person he loves again.

Not only Sato who feels emotional in the case of Matsuda’s death and the search for Plamya, a Russian woman named Elenica also risks her life to be able to punish Plamya and avenge her. In the end, the main characters in this film learn to let go of what has gone and let go of their anger.

The Detective Conan series has been in the air for approximately 26 years. With that long time, TMS Entertainment as the production house continues to develop the design and animation of this anime for the better. It can be seen from the latest Detective Conan films, all the designs and animations are done nicely and are getting cooler, this film is no exception.
The action scenes are also one of the interesting things for the writer in this film. Each scene is precisely crafted and thrilling to watch. According to Susumu Mitsunaka as the director of this film, he wanted to make a new breakthrough and recreate the CG effects for this film instead of using the existing ones. Totally, yes!
BUMP OF CHICKEN performs the theme song for Detective Conan: the Bride of Halloween
For the film Detective Conan: The Bride of Halloween, the band BUMP OF CHICKEN also enlivened the film by performing the ending song “Cronostasis”. From the lyrics, this song is really suitable for this film because it has the meaning of recalling memories with someone in the past.
In addition to BUMP OF CHICKEN, the musical composition in Detective Conan: The Bride of Halloween is also done by Yugo Kanno. If usually the music in this anime is produced by Katsuo Ohno, leaving Kanno to work on the music in Detective Conan’s 25th film is actually not a bad choice. He is able to make the music in this film feel newer with his personal touch without losing the hallmark of Detective Conan’s previous music.
The story idea of Detective Conan: The Bride of Halloween was doubted by the mangaka
Remembering Detective Conan’s films previously produced by several old staff, this time the film features more new staff, such as Susumu Mitsunaka as director and Yugo Kanno as music composer. Especially for Mitsunaka, he really has a desire to provide fresh air for the Detective Conan anime.
During a brainstorming session with Detective Conan mangaka Gosho Aoyama, Mitsunaka’s idea for the film was initially doubtful because Aoyama was worried about the ending of the story. However, the mangaka also quickly agreed after Mitsunaka explained in more detail.

“When I first got the idea, Sensei (Aoyama) was very worried about how to finish this (story). However, I suddenly started talking about the final conclusion. It’s like ‘isn’t this going to work?’ I was surprised because Sensei is so amazing that he can come up with ideas that explode right away.”
Mitsunaka’s ideas in working on this film continue to receive positive input from many parties involved. The director who also worked on the Haikyuu!! This admits that he is grateful because he continues to be taught many things in the production of this film.
Detective Conan: The Bride of Halloween is one of the anime films that managed to stay in the top ten at the Japanese box office. Despite competing with other films, such as Shin Ultraman, Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, to The Quintessential Quintuplets the Movie, the 25th film in the Detective Conan franchise has earned a fantastic income of 9.10 billion yen or equivalent to IDR 988 billion.
With the quality of the story, music, design and directing that is brilliant, the author gives a score of 4/5 for a review of Detective Conan: The Bride of Halloween.
