Kumail Nanjiani (“Eternals”) and Mandy Moore (“This Is Us”) have reportedly signed deals to star in “Thread: An Insidious Tale,” a spinoff of the “Insidious” supernatural movie franchise.
The story follows a husband and wife (Nanjiani and Moore) who seek the help of a time travel spell so they can prevent the death of their young daughter. The consequences are heavy.
‘Moon Knight’ and ‘The Umbrella Academy’ co-creator Jeremy Slater will direct from his own script, while the usual suspects including James Wan and Jason Blum will produce for Screen Gems, Blumhouse and Atomic Monster. .
No word as to when that will begin filming. It will be the series’ sixth overall installment, but it’s being referred to as a “spin-off project” rather than continuing the narrative of the main films.
The franchise’s first four films have grossed over $542 million in total, with the fifth, “Insidious: The Red Door,” arriving on July 7. This fifth sees the story’s focus return to father and son Josh and Dalton Lambert (Patrick Wilson, Ty Simpkins) who, ten years later, must once again return to the Far.
James Wan led the first two, Leigh Whannell the third, Adam Robitel the fourth and Patrick Wilson the fifth.
