This year’s highly acclaimed movie sequel “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” features approximately 280 variations of Spider-Man, including the character of Gwen Stacy/Spider-Woman, who is actually the tallest female character in the universe. movie.
In an episode of the Crew Call podcast with Anthony D’Alessandro, writers/producers Phil Lord and Christopher Miller confirmed that we’ll see more variations of her in the third movie with Miller adding “it’s sort of built into the intrigue, I would say”.
The discussion comes as it was announced that the film will not be released in the United Arab Emirates after failing to pass the country’s censorship requirements according to Variety.
Apparently, one scene features a poster in the background of the frame that depicts the transgender flag and reads “Protect Trans Lives.” Sources say this was one of the concerns that prevented a release from being approved.
The film also drew attention to how some viewers interpret Gwen Stacy’s arc as a transcoded character. The scenes set in the character dimension also prominently feature the colors of the transgender flag (blue/pink/white). However, Stacy is not explicitly identified as transgender in the film.
The UAE ban comes just a week before the film’s scheduled release date from Sony Pictures in the region on June 22. The film’s predecessor in 2018 was released in the country.
