For the first time in years, we’re heading for a crowded slate of tentpole movie releases at the July box office in what’s seen as a major stress test for the theatrical market.

A fifth ‘Indiana Jones’, a seventh ‘Mission: Impossible’, the return of Christopher Nolan and a high-profile ‘Barbie’ movie will all open in the space of three weeks, and all will compete for eyeballs and dollars. .

That doesn’t mean he has to be hostile, as action movie legend Tom Cruise has taken to social media to celebrate the competition his film will face. The actor stars as IMF agent Ethan Hunt in “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One” directed by Christopher McQuarrie.

In a new Twitter post, the actor praised Harrison Ford, 80, for reprising his iconic role and commented on the much-talked-about double movie opening in mid-July. Additionally, he posted photos of him and McQuarrie with tickets to see his three contestants. His message reads as follows:

“This summer is full of incredible films to see in theaters. Congratulations, Harrison Ford, on 40 years of Indy and one of the most iconic characters in history. I love a double feature, and there’s nothing more explosive (or rosier) than one with Oppenheimer and Barbie.

The new Indiana Jones directed by James Mangold opens in cinemas this Friday and will be followed two weeks later by “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One” on July 12. Greta Gerwig’s “Barbie” and Chris Nolan’s “Oppenheimer” are both released on July 21.
