No bigger entertainment news will come this week than the announcement of David Corenswet as the next Superman and Rachel Brosnahan as the next Lois Lane in James Gunn’s upcoming “Superman: Legacy” movie at Warner Bros. Pictures.

Standing at 6’4 (an inch taller than Chris Hemsworth), Corenswet broke through a few years ago with Ryan Murphy’s Netflix limited series ‘Hollywood’ and ‘The Politician’ before supporting the miniseries’ turns. We Own This City” by HBO. and A24’s “Pearl.”

It was around the time these Murphy shows were promoted in 2019 that Corenswet’s name first became linked to the role. At the time, it was unclear if Cavill would return, and the young actor’s Clark Kent-style looks were often commented on in interviews and reviews.

While promoting “Hollywood” in 2019, the actor spoke with EW about comments that he looked similar to Cavill. This old quote is making the rounds again this week, thanks to Variety, and the actor answered the question with:

“It caught my eye before the internet caught me. But my pie-in-the-sky ambition is definitely to play Superman. I’d love to see someone do an upbeat throwback [take on Superman]. I love Henry Cavill’s dark, gritty take, but I’d like to see the next one be very bright and upbeat.

Four years later, he’s fulfilled that wish by landing the role and doing it in a project that Gunn says will lean towards the optimistic ideal of a Superman – a being who is an alien, but of deep humanity, kindness and compassion. .
