Returning from the first season, Lee Jung-jae as Seong Gi-hun, Lee Byung-hun as Front Man, Gong Yoo as Recruiter, and Wi Ha-jun as Hwang Jun-ho, which indicates that he survived his fall from a cliff last season.
Joining them are Yim Si-wan, Kang Ha-nuel, Park Sung-hoon, and Yang Dong-geun in undisclosed roles. Filming for the new series is expected to begin this summer and will likely last ten months.
“Squid Game” premiered as a Netflix Original in late 2021 and quickly became a global sensation, racking up 1.65 billion watch hours in the first 28 days after its premiere.
It remains Netflix’s biggest achievement to date and helped usher in a wave of successful content launches from Korea over the following months. Its star Lee Jung-jae recently played a major role in the upcoming TV series “Star Wars: The Acolyte” which is in production in the UK.
A release of the second season is not expected until late 2024 at the earliest or possibly 2025.
