We know that the upcoming “Ahsoka” series is set in “The Mandalorian” time period, years after the events of the original “Star Wars” trilogy.

This makes a freshly released photo from Empire this morning rather surprising as it appears to show an Imperial Inquisitor appearing in the new series.

The Inquisitors, deadly enforcers of the Jedi hunt for the Empire, were introduced in the “Star Wars Rebels” animated series that serves as the precursor to “Ahsoka.” They also appeared in other media around the “Rebels” era – from the “Obi-Wan Kenobi” miniseries to the “Jedi: Fallen Order” games.

However, their kind was thought to have been defeated with the fall of the empire. How we got back here is unclear, and the magazine won’t reveal this character’s name. However, the image suggests this is potentially the eighth sibling who apparently died in the second season of “Rebels.”

One possibility is of a flashback. It was already teased in a photo the other day that the “Rebels” epilogue is being remade in live-action for the new series, suggesting that some time off is needed for the show.

Either way, this marks the series’ fourth villain alongside Grand Admiral Thrawn (Lars Mikkelsen) and lightsaber-wielding Baylan Skoll (Ray Stevenson) and Shin Hati (Ivanna Sakhno).

“Ahsoka” will launch in August on the Disney+ service.
