The announcement of Daredevil: Born Again at San Diego Comic-Con, Vincent D’ Onofrio reacts in character on social media. Kingpin actor and Marvel Cinematic Universe baddie Vincent D’Onofrio reacts to the announcement of Daredevil: Born Again. D’Onofrio made his debut as Wilson Fisk/Kingpin in Daredevil, which ran for three seasons from 2015 to 2018. Following the show’s critically acclaimed season 3, Netflix/ABC canceled its slate of Marvel shows, including Iron Fist, Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, The Punisher, Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D, and Daredevil. Despite fan campaigns to resurrect the Defenders universe, viewers were left to wonder whether they’d ever see Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdock take on D’Onofrio’s Kingpin again.
Last December, Murdock and Fisk made their official MCU debuts in Spider-Man: No Way Home and Disney+’s Hawkeye, respectively. No Way Home saw Cox cameo as Peter Parker’s attorney and, in Hawkeye, D’Onofrio reprised his role as the leader of the Tracksuit Mafia and Maya Lopez’s “Uncle” in its final two episodes. In March, it was revealed that Disney/Marvel Studios was making a Daredevil reboot show, which will see Cox and D’Onofrio together again. Now, at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, Disney+’s Daredevil: Born Again was confirmed as part of the MCU Phase 5 in Spring of 2024.

Daredevil spearheaded the various Marvel-Netflix series from 2015 until the show’s cancellation in 2018. After the mandated two-year waiting period from Daredevil’s end, Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) returned in a cameo in Spider-Man: No Way Home during the holiday season of 2021, while his show and all other former Marvel-Netflix series have since migrated to Disney+.

Vincent D’Onofrio also returned as Wilson Fisk, a.k.a. The Kingpin on the Disney+ series Hawkeye, while both Cox and D’Onofrio are confirmed to return as Daredevil and Kingpin in the upcoming Disney+ Marvel series Echo. Additionally, Daredevil is set to delve further with his return to the MCU, with a Daredevil “reboot” in the works. While D’Onofrio’s Fisk is very likely to (and should) return as well, he does not necessarily need to immediately reprise his role as The Man Without Fear’s greatest enemy.
D’Onofrio’s portrayal of Fisk was an imposing and legitimately scary villain on Daredevil, remaining a consistent presence throughout all three seasons. While Fisk remains a great contributor to the popularity of Daredevil, other famed villains of Matt Murdock’s did not get as much time to shine, with Matt’s MCU return affording them a great opportunity to do so. As The Kingpin plots his revenge on The Devil of Hell’s Kitchen for their inevitable next battle, here are five famed Daredevil antagonists who could be Matt Murdock’s next adversaries.
Sunday, D’Onofrio took to Twitter to react to the news surrounding Born Again. First, the actor tweeted his character’s iconic “When I was a boy” quote from the original Daredevil show before tweeting “Yes Mr. Murdock” along with the new show’s official logo. Daredevil and Kingpin are set to appear elsewhere in the MCU before Born Again. During SDCC, Daredevil’s new MCU costume was revealed in a trailer for Disney+’s She-Hulk, which will feature Cox’s lawyer alongside Tatiana Maslany’s Jennifer Walters. Following Daredevil’s appearance in Marvel Studios’ next live-action series, he and Kingpin will appear in the Hawkeye spin-off Echo. In Hawkeye’s finale, Maya seemingly shot and killed Kingpin as the camera cut away.
