Facts About Marvel’s “Thunderbolts” Villains

Marvel Studios has announced a series of projects that will be part of MCU Phase 5. One of the projects in that phase is the Thunderbolts film, which is arguably Marvel’s “Suicide Squad”. In fact, at the D23 Expo, Marvel also announced who the characters would be in the group.

For your information, the Thunderbolts are a group of villains who first appeared in the comic The Incredible Hulk #449 (1997). Even so, there are many differences from this group of Marvel villains between the comic version and those that will appear in the upcoming MCU film.

  1. The group created by Baron Zemo in the comic version

In the comic version, the Thunderbolts started as a group of Marvel villains named Masters of Evil created by Baron Zemo. Even so Joseph Kosinski film, Zemo disguised the group under the name Thunderbolts which he introduced as an organization containing superheroes. Zemo also acts as the leader of the group.

The villains who also change their identities try to win the sympathy of the citizens of the world in hopes of convincing the public that they are heroes. The main goal of Zemo and the villains doing this is to slowly rule the world. However, Zemo’s plan changes when he realizes that he can actually save the world with the Thunderbolts.

As a result, Zemo and the villainous Thunderbolts group instead work for the United States government on a number of missions to save the world, just like the Suicide Squad in the DC universe. In fact, after that Zemo recruited more villains to join the Thunderbolts to protect the world from harm.

  1. There are several versions of Thunderbolts

Baron Zemo is indeed the first character to create Thunderbolts in the comic version. However, after that came various versions of the Thunderbolts with different leaders. One of them is Norman Osborn’s Thunderbolts aka Green Goblin which makes the group fully functional for evil, not for saving the world anymore.

Then, Fall film there are also Thunderbolts created by Theaddus ‘Thunderbolt’ Ross aka Red Hulk. For those of you who don’t know, Secret Invasion is one of the most popular arcs in Marvel comics. The story focuses on the alien race of Skrulls who have taken control of Earth with their shapeshifting abilities. In fact, the Skrulls have taken over from a number of Marvel superheroes by posing as them.

The actions of the Skrulls certainly managed to wreak havoc on Earth. Fortunately, there is still a group of Thunderbolts under the leadership of Norman Osborn who managed to defeat the Skrulls. However, Osborn took advantage of this momentum to take over the Avengers by including a number of villains who used the alter egos of a number of Marvel superheroes.

As we know, Marvel Studios Barbarian film will also present the Secret Invasion series in MCU Phase 5. However, it is very likely that the Thunderbolts will not be involved in Secret Invasion because their film will only be released after the series and .

  1. Worked with the Avengers to defeat Zemo

The Thunderbolts once took over the position of the Avengers who disappeared while still under Zemo’s leadership. Every member who is a villain disguises their identity and claims to be a superhero. However, one day, the missing members of the Avengers finally returned.

Zemo immediately revealed the identity of each member of the Thunderbolts to sabotage the dreams of some of its members who wanted to be real superheroes. Interestingly, the former Thunderbolts villains actually joined the Avengers to fight Zemo. In the end, Zemo lost as a result of this cooperation even though he was able to escape.

  1. Be on the right path when led by a superhero

In addition to villains and antiheroes, Thunderbolts has also involved Marvel superheroes as leaders, such as Black Widow to Hawkeye. While under the leadership of a superhero, the function of the Thunderbolts group is to protect and save the world from danger, just like the Avengers.
