Trent Reznor has been a source of musical inspiration for several artists, but he also finds himself inspired by younger artists. During an episode of super producer Rick Rubin’s Tetragrammatonthe Nine Inch Nails vocalist and instrumentalist opened up about his love for songwriting.
Over the years, Reznor has worn many hats, including that of lead singer, film composer and songwriter – the last, he says, is the hardest.
“Having something to say, something to say truthfully, that has a reason for being rather than just a thing,” Reznor said.
He also revealed that through his daughter, he developed a fondness for pop music. He caught himself feeling good listening to a certain pop hitmaker recently, who his daughter introduced him to.
“[This song] really reminded me of the art of writing a well crafted song – I cried listening to a Dua Lipa track,” he said. “Because it was just a really well done piece of music, you know? It was smart. It felt good.
Although he didn’t specify which Lipa song he was listening to, some fans took to Twitter to make their guesses. You can see some of the fan reactions below.
