The new HBO series from The Weeknd and Sam Levinson The idol is here, and so far the response hasn’t been… not great: it has the lowest Rotten Tomatoes score of any HBO program, currently at 26% (with an audience score of 58%) . The Weeknd doesn’t seem fazed by that, though. In fact, it looks like he’s happy with the way things are going, as he indicated in a new QG interview.
Early in the conversation, he was asked how he felt about the response to the show after the first two episodes, and he replied, “Love it. It’s definitely rocked the culture for sure [laughs]. We knew we were doing something dark and controversial but true to what we meant. When asked if he thinks “the public engages in it the way they want”, he replied: “I just think the discussion is healthy no matter what. For me, it’s like, I’m just glad there’s a conversation going on. It’s important for everything I do, especially this new medium I’m in.
Meanwhile, The Weeknd continues to release new music as new episodes premiere. New tracks that followed last weekend’s episode were The Weeknd’s “Family” featuring Suzanna Son and Mike Dean’s “Devil’s Paradise.”
