What’s more meta than a movie within a movie? How about a movie within a movie based on a TV show about a bunch of guys making movies in Hollywood where the executive producer is actually the inspiration for the protagonist?
It’s basically the plot of HBO Surroundingsthe franchise inspired by Mark Wahlbergbecame famous. The HBO series, created by Doug Ellinwon multiple Primetime Emmy and Golden Globe awards and his next film earned $49.3 million at the box office.
Surroundings premiered on HBO in 2004, introducing viewers to movie star Vincent Chase (Adrian Grenier) and his main team of support buddies (Kevin Connolly, Kevin Dillon, Jerry Ferrara And Jeremy Piven). THE the devil wears Prada star plays the title character who tries to balance friendship and personal gain in Los Angeles alongside the final four stars.
“It was definitely a different time,” Grenier recalled of his on-set experience during a GQ Australia interview in November 2020. “We couldn’t have gotten away with today with the same things we did on the show. I’m glad we did when we did.
He continued: “I could have used Vince a bit more in my life, actually. But I’m happy to say I was able to play a role and then come back to myself. … I was doing documentaries in Mexico when I got the role, so that was quite a change.
The surroundings of Surroundings was much taller than the five main guys that fit on the poster. The cast also included other stars – including Debi Mazar, Constance Zimmer And Emmanuelle Chriqui — who made memorable cameos on the HBO drama.
Nearly four years after the award-winning series wrapped, the Hollywood crew have reunited for a cinematic sequel, set just days after the finale’s cliffhanger scenes.
“We shot in large format from the start, like it was on the big screen,” Grenier said. The Independent in June 2015. “Fans watched four or five episodes in a row. The only difference [for the movie] is that we cut the opening and closing credits.
He added: “One of the things I love about it [project] it’s about how you nurture your neighbors and your friends and family, how you support them. Even though it seems like the theme is about indulgence and materialism, it really isn’t. It’s about supporting your friends.
