SZA may have refused to submit guest verses in the past. But she’s not shy about getting star-studded memorable cameos on her projects. The “Low” singer’s past videos have featured guest appearances by Drew Barrymore and more. However, there was one actress she couldn’t hook. According to Vivica A. Fox, her on-screen spotlight in SZA’s “Kill Bill” video could have been aimed at Uma Thurman.
During an interview with audiovisual club, Fox said he worked with the songwriter. “When I got it, I was surprised, to be honest with you. Because they called…[It] took them five days to finally decide they were going to hire me, because I think they wanted Uma Thurman,” Fox said.
The actress added, “But when you think about it, it’s a little more fitting for SZA and Vivica to be together because we’re both African American women, and when it came out, people ran with it. They were like, ‘They’re gonna do Kill Bill 3, Finally.’ Because people have been waiting for Kill Bill 3 for so long and see my daughter getting revenge on Uma.
Fox has no bad blood about it, saying SZA’s late response due to her supposed attempt to secure Thurman was “cool,” she remarked, saying, “I mean, c is his franchise, as well as mine.”
On the contrary, when describing the inspiration behind the video, SZA made it clear that Fox’s appearance was always the focus. “I love the character of Vivica A. Fox. I love Lucy Liu’s character. I even like Bill because he’s super complex. I feel like he doesn’t understand why he did what he did. He’s devoid of emotion, but he loved the bride so much he couldn’t bear her being with anyone else,” SZA said. EO.
