In a new interview with Monica Denise on her ‘Mo Talk Radio’ show, the former basketball star opened up about how he ruined some important relationships with two former lovers he described as “perfect”.
Looking comfortable in a camouflage hoodie, t-shirt and black beanie, he explained, “I had two perfect wives and I screwed it up. My first was my little mother, Arnetta [Yardbourgh]then i met shaunie [Nelson]. Shaunie was also a perfect woman, and I ruined everything.
He continued, “Yeah, you know, we were young and we were always doing d*mb stuff. But, you know, the good thing about our relationship is that they forgave me and we have a good relationship now. But when you ask me about the perfect wife, I had two perfect wives and I screwed it up. Just, by, you know, being d*mb.
The EDM producer further revealed how he prepared his sons to know their responsibilities as men. He said: “I tell my sons all the time, ‘A man has three jobs when it comes to a woman. Protect, provide and love. Some men can only offer two, for some reason, but I’ll teach you how to offer all three. and that’s what I’m trying to do.
Even though I don’t have a relationship with the women I let go, I will always be PPL: protect, provide and love. Everything they need, they get from me.
Mentioning again his ex-wife who he married in 2002 and spent seven years with, he said: ‘Shaunie is married, I’m happy for her. I hope this gentleman treats her the way she’s supposed to be treated, and I still love her. She is still my wife.

He said: “I’m glad you asked because I don’t mind talking about it, but I was bad. She was awesome. She really was. It was all me.
Without revealing too much information, he continued, “We don’t need to talk about what I was doing, but I wasn’t protecting her and protecting those vows. Sometimes you live this double life and you get caught up in it. I’m not going to say it was her. It was all me.
O’Neal added that his misguided actions during his marriage to Shaunie created a lasting impression that no amount of regret could mend the hurt she suffered during their time together.
