Ryan Gosling defends Ken’s casting
Ryan Gosling is hitting back at critics who are expressing concerns about his casting as Ken in the highly anticipated ‘Barbie’ movie, citing his “old age” as the main issue.
In a recent interview with QGthe 42-year-old star responded to the controversy by saying, “I would say, you know, if people don’t want to play with my Ken, there’s a lot of other Kens to play with.”
Gosling said he found the whole speech amusing, pointing out that Ken never received much attention prior to his casting in the film. “But suddenly it’s like, ‘No, we’ve been caring about Ken this whole time,'” Gosling remarked. “No, you didn’t. You never did. You never cared. Barbie never fucked Ken. That’s the point.”
The ‘La La Land’ star concluded the interview by addressing the critics directly, saying, “If you ever really care about Ken, you’ll know no one cares about Ken. So your hypocrisy is on display. That is why his story must be told.
Some fans didn’t like Ryan Gosling’s casting as Ken
Despite initial concerns raised by some fans of the toy brand over Gosling’s casting as Ken in the upcoming Greta Gerwig-directed film, Gosling himself has humorously embraced his role as a “representative” of the character.
In a light-hearted way, he jokingly remarked, “I care about this guy now. I am like his representative. Ken couldn’t show up to receive this award, so I’m here to accept it for him.
When the movie’s trailer was released on social media in April, a few fans expressed their reservations about Gosling’s age, citing wrinkles and a perceived lack of attractiveness.
A fan tweeted, per page 6, “Ryan Gosling is too old to play Ken; I’m sorry, her wrinkles take me out of the experience. Another complaint emerged, stating, “He is so Ken, but God he is so unattractive to me. I don’t want to call it ugly; it just doesn’t appeal to me visually.
Nonetheless, many other fans have defended Gosling’s casting, with one even pointing out that Ken is 62, reckoning from when the doll was created in 1961.
A partisan tweeted“…There’s a bunch of muggers in Hollywood who still have jobs, but your biggest problem with the industry is that they choose a man who can actually act in place of a white boy looking like TikTok?”
another fan added“Ken is 62 years old. [Ryan Gosling] is only 42 years old. So let’s not talk about who’s too old to play with whom.
