Rapper Juvenile’s “Back That Thang Up” is the highlight of the Tiny Desk concert

Juvenile performed several of his hits on NPR’s little office. Of course, the hit “Back That Azz Up” is quickly becoming a fan favorite again!

Juvenile finally gets a little office show

A few months ago, fans were begging NPR to let Juvenile play some of their classics in the venue. Did they ever think this would happen? No, but here we get an all-string version of “Back That Azz Up”.

The room was full of that New Orleans energy as the rapper was fired up by Manny Fresh, who got on the piano and played that goddamn thing at one point. The instruments accompanying the rapper were trumpets, saxophones, rhythm guitars, etc.

The backing vocalists wore the khaki sweater that the rapper made popular in his day. And we’d be remiss if we didn’t mention that he looked happy, healthy and comfortable playing again.

The rapper did something special with every track he performed. He slowed down “Rodeo” and added sultry backup singers. The rough lyrics matched the soft, melodic rhythm; it’s an undeniable combo. “No, Juvenile rodeoing for Tiny Desk is ART,” wrote a fan of the show he put together.

The duo performed their hit “I Need A Hot Girl” and lit up the small room. Everyone was bouncing and jamming. The moment quickly becomes as epic as Usher’s Tiny Desk appearance nearly a year ago.

“For Tiny Desk to make me go on Friday!! @juviethegreat did the right thing in a Burberry suit with the Soulja Rag! I needed all of that! 🥹,” one fan praised.

Another fan took to Twitter to agree. “Wait, Juvenile’s NPR Tiny Desk is the focus of my entire life today. His phrasing, diction and ability to rock with a live band reminded me that these people are second-line descendants .

That familiar intro when she picked those chords in front of the rapper performing “Back That Azz U,” the violinist knew what she was doing. She smiled and the crowd got rowdy instantly. Even Manny Fresh looked surprised and excited at the same time as if he didn’t know the order of the setlist.

This song will do that to you. “Yoooo. The juvenile has NOT come to play with you all on this little desk. I just watched Back That Azz Up with STRINGS. Yeah, man. This is a Top 5 TINY DESK performance. Period.”

It could have been so wild

Manny Fresh teased fans at one point, tricking them into thinking “Go DJ” was next. He plays a few notes on the piano, and the Juvenile shouted “go DJ” the crowd went wild, but they stopped there.

“The way Mannie Fresh teased ‘Go DJ’ on Tiny Desk almost made me lose my mind. Juveniles don’t have to slam ‘Trigger it’ like that.

Now we need Lil’ Wayne and the whole Cash Money crew to come in and unleash blow after blow! Tiny Desk is having an exciting year; they say in the street that Chloe Bailey is filming a Tiny Desk right now!

The photos circle the singer in the familiar setting, singing her heart out.
