Matty Healy addressed his past controversies on stage in London, saying he’s ‘f*cking proud’ of himself regardless

According to Noel Gallagher, Matty Healy is a “slack-jawed f*ckwit,” and a long line of music fans would agree. Even the 1975 frontman slightly agrees that he’s an acquired taste. However, during a recent show in London, Matty Healy finally took a moment to address his past controversies.

As the musician paused between songs, facing the crowd, Healy opened up, saying, “I was always trying stuff. And some things I was right and some things I was wrong.

He added: “But do you know what? There’s a lot of things I’ve said, jokes I’ve made, you know what, there’s probably a few fucking songs I’d cover if I had the opportunity. What I mean is, I really only do this because I want to make you laugh and feel good. That’s what my favorite art does, and that’s what I I’m trying to do. I’m kinda excited. And, you know what, I’m proud of myself.

Among Matt Healy’s controversies are racially insensitive remarks about Ice Spice, which Rina Sawayama called him out on during his set at the 2023 Glastonbury Festival. Healy is also Taylor’s superfan public enemy number one. Swift, The Swifties, as they accuse her of tarnishing her brand even after their alleged breakup.
