The ‘Miss Independent’ singer, 41, spoke candidly about her messy divorce from Blackstock, 46, on the Monday, June 12 episode of the ‘We Can Do Hard Things With Glennon Doyle’ podcast. “If there’s still this tug of war going on, like, ‘Oh my god I love you, but god I hate you, you’re just awful.’ It’s not healthy,” she confessed. “It’s just emotionally 9-0…but you finally walk away from that and realize how, ‘OK, that feels better.'”

We Weekly confirmed in June 2020 that Clarkson had filed for divorce after seven years of marriage. After their separation, the duo engaged in a messy legal battle over their marital assets, including the Clarkson residence in Montana where Blackstock resided and custody of their two minor children – which lasted two years.
In March 2022, the Kelly Clarkson Show the host agreed to pay her ex-husband a one-time sum of $1.3 million and $115,000 a month in spousal support until January 2024. The “Since U Been Gone” singer also agreed to pay Blackstock $45,601 a month in child support until their children are no longer minors. Clarkson, meanwhile, was granted primary custody of their cubs while Blackstock received monthly visitations. In May 2023, Clarkson revealed that she and her children were moving to the East Coast for his talk show as he moved to film in New York.

Earlier this month, the Grammy winner released her 10th studio album, Chemistry, which detailed her past romance and the changes she had made to her personal life. During her Monday appearance on the podcast, Clarkson explained that she was “back and forth” for the record to start at the start of her relationship, but felt “sonically strange.”
“The totality [relationship] was a rollercoaster,” she joked. “It’s good if the [track] sequencing is that… but that’s how you feel when you go through something.
