Fear the living dead completes one last run on AMC, and then the first in a new series of spinoffs will arrive. The Walking Dead: The Dead City will reunite the unlikely team Maggie and Negan for a Manhattan adventure that turns out to be a thrilling throwback and should appeal to fans of the more action-oriented parts of the original city.
The show leaves plenty of room for a second season, should it come to fruition, but how many episodes will we see for the first season of this spin-off? It will be a stark contrast to a series with a narrower focus and a much less bloated total runtime. Season 1 contains six grime-soaked episodes, and once those are over, at least two more spinoffs (including series for Daryl Dixon and the Rick Grimes/Michonne fix) will eventually arrive.
Overall, ghost town is a leaner, meaner product with undertones of the old Negan appearing as he and Maggie search for Hershel, Glenn and Maggie’s son. However, these two new companions are anything but friends. This is to be expected.
Will we see crossover action, though? Morgan previously said that “the door is open” for an overlap between spinoffs “because we’re all on the same timeline.” Crossed fingers.
CMA The Walking Dead: The Dead City premieres June 18.
