Hoda Kotb drew a line after his 6-year-old daughter, Haley, asked to wear a crop top.

THE Today with Hoda & Jenna, co-host, 58, revealed during the Monday, June 12 episode that her eldest son recently asked about wearing a belly shirt. “So Haley wants to wear a belly. She asked me about a belly,” Kotb told her co-anchor. Jenna Bush Hager.

“She was walking down the street and she said ‘Hi mum’ and she shot [her shirt] half-way. I go, ‘What are you doing?’ She’s like, ‘Nothing’, and she’s laughing out of her mind,” Kotb explained.

Bush Hager, 41, suggested she might want to copy teenage fashion trends, but Kotb said her daughter didn’t know any teenage girls to see the style.

“That’s weird! You want your kids to feel good about you, but isn’t that a weird thing?” Kotb said. “I said no. No, we don’t do that.

The Oklahoma native – who adopted Haley as well as 3-year-old Hope with her ex-fiancé Joel Schiffman – shared that she struggled to give her baby girl independence.

“I often have a hard time making your child responsible or in control and then saying no,” she explained. “We always do the, ‘Do you want blueberries or raspberries? Do you want to wear pink or red? You choose! See, you can choose! See, you have some control!’ So I wonder, what do we do Even though that’s what parenthood is today, sometimes you wonder if you only have one choice…sometimes that Must be no, don’t you think?”

Kotb has been open about raising her children and trying to instill strong values in them. The NBC personality told exclusively We Weekly last year that she is raising her daughters to do good in the world and be kind to others.

“I always say I want my kids to be happy and helpful – those two things…I want my kids to realize there’s such a beautiful feeling when you give someone something…someone one that doesn’t have something,” Kotb said exclusively. We in December 2022 during the holiday season.

She added: “I’m really proud because we had dinner together last night, we had a date and my daughter, she said, ‘Hey mum, can we pay for that table over there?’ And we looked at this table and she said, ‘But we don’t tell them, do we?’ I go, ‘We don’t tell them.’ So she picked the table, she did it herself. It had nothing to do with me. So, I thought I wanted to start building more with them, and the holidays are the perfect time.
