David Ayer Regrets One Thing About Jared Leto’s Joker

Despite the critics, Suicide Squad’s director only has one thing to say about Leto’s version of the villain.

It’s been almost 7 years since David Ayer’s Suicide Squad was released in theaters, but fans are still asking for the release of the director’s cut of the film, which would be quite different from what was seen in theaters. But DC fans aren’t the only ones who still have the movie very much in mind, Ayer too.

The director keeps in constant contact with the audience through social media, revealing little details that were not seen from his film, either with images, videos or simply answering questions from fans. Recently, he even showed his support for DC Studios, the new division of Warner Bros. Discovery that is in charge of James Gunn and Peter Safran, to supervise all franchise projects.

His most recent intervention had to do with one of the most questioned characters in Suicide Squad, Jared Leto’s Joker. Ayer revealed via Twitter that there is only one thing he regrets about the portrayal of the villain:

“It was Joker trolling Batman after getting his teeth punched in by him. It’s the one aesthetic choice I wish I hadn’t made. Caught a lot of smoke for it obviously.”

David has constantly defended Leto for his performance, further claiming that most of his work is in the scenes that didn’t make it to the screen and that they are part of the director’s vision, which is precisely what fans continue to ask for, as they did with Zack Snyder’s version of Justice League.

What Was 2016’s Suicide Squad About?

In the aftermath of Superman’s death, intelligence officer Amanda Waller assembles Task Force X, a team of dangerous criminals imprisoned at Belle Reve Prison consisting of elite hitman Deadshot, former psychiatrist Harley Quinn, pyrokinetic ex-gangster El Diablo, opportunistic thief Captain Boomerang, genetic mutation Killer Croc, and specialized assassin Slipknot. They are placed under command of Colonel Rick Flag to be used as disposable assets in high-risk missions for the United States government. Each member has a nano bomb implanted in their neck, designed to detonate should any member rebel or try to escape.

Suicide Squad starred Will Smith, Margot Robbie, Joel Kinnaman, Viola Davis, Jai Courtney, Jared Leto, Cara Delevingne, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Jay Hernandez, Karen Fukuhara, Adam Beach, Scott Eastwood, Jim Parrack, Ike Barinholtz, Common, Ben Affleck, Corina Calderon, and Alex Meraz among others.
